The latest chapter of Fortnite has already arrived and brings much more than a new map, characters, and weapons. This time, Epic has taken things to a whole new level with new modes, redesigns, and improvements.
I’ve had a blast playing Fortnite with friends, and this new chapter has breathed new life into the aging gameplay formula. I play with a lot of friends who live in Mexico, which is why I have to switch to the NA-Central, which has always made my latency shoot up.
This has been a bit annoying since I started facing lag, especially in the early game where there are a lot of players on the map. However, a friend recommended using the internet offered by Cox; the support from Cox en español was especially helpful in finding me the right plan for my online activities. Since I started using it, my latency issues have almost vanished and my experience has been smooth as butter (suave como la mantequilla).
So, arm yourself with the power of fast internet and dive into the new modes offered in the latest chapter of Fortnite.
LEGO Fortnite Odyssey
While LEGO Fortnite has been out for a while now, this new update adds a lot of new things to the gameplay loop.
The biggest change is that the enemy difficulty is equal across all biomes, allowing you the freedom to go wherever you want. The health and damage dealt by enemies have also been adjusted to make the game more balanced.
The mode now offers crafting that’s based on components. This gives you a bit more flexibility to decide the materials you want to use to build tools and weapons. It also adds more depth to crafting since the crafted item’s quality depends on the material you use when crafting. This impacts the rarity and attributes of the item.
Resource gathering is also more intuitive. Wood, Metal, Stone, Rift, and Gem have a Power Tier similar to the Battle Royale mode. Wood is the lowest Common item whereas Rift is the highest Legendary item.
The mode also brings The Storm King from Fortnite Save The World. This is a boss battle with multiple stages that can drop Shatterhorn Fragments, Thunderclap Blade, and Cyclone Pickaxe, which can be used to craft tools and weapons. But this isn’t a one-time boss battle since the Storm King will power back up after 24 hours.
Fortnite Ballistic
Ballistic is Epic’s unserious take on tactical FPS games like Counter-Strike, Valorant, and Rainbow Six: Seige.
The mode plays out exactly like Counter-Strike where you buy weapons using in-game money earned by playing rounds and completing objectives. One team has to plant the Rift Point Device whereas the other team has to defuse it. The winner of the round is the last team standing.
The mode currently only has one map, with a limited number of weapons from Battle Royale. Currently, the mode allows you to select between three assault rifles, two pistols, two shotguns, two SMGs, and one sniper rifle.
Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 1
As a real blast from the past, Fortnite OG brings the original first chapter back.
It features the same weapons that were available in the first season back in 2017 along with the traps and storyline. The seasons in this mode will be shorter than Battle Royale, with each season lasting around a month.
The game is playable solo or with a squad and features the Zero Build mode as well. Building mechanics are the same as the current Battle Royale as well as traversal features like slide, sprint, door bash, mantling, and moving while healing.
The original Fortnite Battle Royale map is also back and looks exactly the way you remember it. However, the Zero Build mode features ascenders and zip lines to help players get to higher locations.
Chapter 6 Season 1: 鬼 HUNTERS
Saving the best for last, we have the latest chapter in the Battle Royale mode. This is the thirty-third season for this mode and the season is set to end on February 21, 2025.With a theme around Japanese culture, hunters, and yōkai, the new map features locations like Warrior’s Watch, Flooded Frogs, Magic Mosses, and Shogun’s Solitutue, all of which follow a specific style.
It doesn’t stop there. There are new weapons like the Fury AR, Holo Twister AR, Surgefire SMG, Veiled Precision SMG, Twinfire Auto Shotgun, Sentinel Pump, and the Oni Shotgun. The mode also features the new Typhoon Blade, which is a katana that gives you new movement options.
There are also two new mask items. The Fire Oni can launch flame projectiles that deal a lot of damage and the Void Oni can be used to teleport to a close by location for outplays.
You now also have a few more movement options. To climb a wall even higher, you can use Wall Scramble, where your character takes a few steps up a wall. With Ledge Jump, you can jump from a ledge while sprinting to get additional momentum in your jump. During the fall, you can perform a Roll Landing, where your character does a barrel roll and restores some of the stamina.
Lastly, there’s Wall Kick, which allows you to launch off a wall in a direction you choose. You can even chain Wall Kicks and jump from one vertical wall to another.
An Improved Metaverse
Epic has been trying to turn Fortnite into a metaverse for quite a while now. Players have been able to create their islands and game modes for a while now. This new chapter takes this to the next level.
This new chapter is still in its infancy and we are still yet to see the direction Epic takes. However, the new season seems promising since Epic is also planning to add a dedicated first-person mode, which is already being used in the Ballistic mode.
